Zach met his friend and teammate Flo when both were students at Vassar College, when he caught her eye due to his camouflage suit and funny hat. A production assistant when he applied for The Amazing Race, Zach had also traveled extensively through Europe and South America, although he'd never taken a trip with Flo. He named his logistical skills and ability to keep his cool as strengths, which proved to be the case when he and Flo crossed the finish line first to win the third Amazing Race.
Although he says traveling with Flo made him realize they could never be involved romantically, it made them closer friends and he wouldn't change anything about the experience.
