Mary, from Stone, Kentucky, is a stay-at-home mom to her three children. She met her husband and Race partner, David, when they both worked at McDonalds over ten years ago. Her primary motivation for going on the Race was to see the world outside of Kentucky and to prove to David that she is not a quitter.
Mary, who believes she is the more cautious of the two, took her very first vacation in 2005 and has been bitten by the travel bug. Before the Race she could count the number of times she'd been on a plane on one hand.
The hardest leg of the Race for Mary was in China where she didn't think she would get over the Great Wall. Of all the places the Race took them, Mary loved Mongolia best. "It was cooler, 32 degrees. We're from Kentucky, we're not used to hot, hot weather."
Since returning to Kentucky, things have been different for Mary. "I've lived my whole life with nobody ever seeing me. I can got to Wal-Mart and pick something up and David knows if I go, I'll be stuck for two or three hours with people talking to me. It's cool."
